trying to remember the sky...
trying to draw all the stars
in the sky,
seen
while lying on my back
on the floor
looking through an open window
from a darkened room,
falling asleep,
with quiet breath,
one night
in september...

Too many associations to recount...It's interesting that you are a sound artist, I think of your blog as a tuning fork for my brain.
yes, well also a painter, so the tuning fork moves back and forth between sounding for the ears and vibrating for the eyes too...!
Eye has not hear, nor has ear seen
i love your star drawing! this is so beautiful... it reminds me of "i speak through a hole in my head" with the stoplight drawings. but also of the feldman & schindler house drawings - i'd say these are some of my favourites, but i find myself saying that about much of your work. do you have a series of star drawings like this one?
actually, come to think of it...
there's one more thing...
this also reminds me of darwin's documentation of plant movements in a way, as well...
thanks gossamer for the kind words. it's actually only one drawing, done from a specific place on a specific evening for a specific moment, so that's all there is! but it is certainly connected with all of the minimal process sort of notation drawings you mention. it's rare to be in a space where you can lie on the floor, look out the window, and see the stars in the sky - certainly not possible in los angeles! of course, that darwin drawing and notation of plant movement was one of my favorite things in the show! beautiful.
